Travel Guide to Gilgit-Baltistan




Gilgit-Baltistan:the heaven on earth in the lap of three mountain ranges ,the Hindukush ,the Karakorum and the Himalayas is yet to be explored by tourists across the globe.

It has three divisions i.e Gilgit division ,Baltistan division and Diamer division with further bifurcation into 10 districts.Almost every district of Gilgit-Baltistan conceals breath taking landscapes and lush green pastures.

Difficult terrain ,lofty and icy mountains ,mighty glaciers ,cascading streams,serenity and lakes makes this chunk one of the beautiful and worth visiting places of northern Pakistan.Lets give a bird eye to some of them.

The foremost is district Astore that has lakes,dancing waterfalls and trekking areas.This district is the door to Deosai National Park or Deosai Plains at the height of 12000 feet above the sea level.The park is made to protect wildlife especially endangered specie Brown Bear.

The park borders district Astore-Diamer division and Skardu-Baltistan division.The tourist can get to this place via direct flight of 55 mins from Islamabad to Skardu then a road trip of 3-4 hours.

The Ghizer district comes second in the list.It is the land of lakes which is a gateway to Chitral via Phundar ,Gulagmuli and Shandoor.The popular lakes of this district include Khalti Lake ,Langar Lake and Shandoor Lake.

The annual polo festival is also held in Shandoor top that is 11000 feet above the sea level.The tourists could visit this place via direct flight from Islamabad to Gilgit then 5-8 hours road trip.

Hunza-Nagar Districts are famous for Atabad Lake ,the long tunnels and mighty mountains like Rakaposhi ,Diran Peak etc.Hunza district is the gateway to CPEC as it's peripheral valleys connect with China.These districts are at a drive of 1-2 hours from Gilgit city.

People of Gilgit-Baltistan are living in peace ,following certain norms ,values,traditions and culture.We have some areas like Gojal ,Hunza where we dont have boundary walls of houses because we are all like a family and we do know not to cross our limits.Hence tourists have to consider cultural assimilation.They need to corporate with us to make Gilgit-Baltistan a better place.
